CONT: When Zoe is eating Nick's spaghetti in the restaurant kitchen, the bowl of spaghetti alternates between full and almost empty as they switch camera angles., CREW: In many interior shots in the kitchen, movie cameras and lighting are reflected in the heat lamp covers and other metallic surfaces., FAKE: In the scene where Kate and Zoe are walking along side a yellow school bus on the way to Zoe's first day at school, a mother with her son is crossing the road. As the mother and son pass the front of the bus, the son drops his book. The 'son' tells the 'mom' and they pause in the path of Kate and Zoe briefly before being forced to move on, leaving the book behind in order not to block Kate and Zoe. A crossing officer attempts to pick it up for them before leaving it as the mother and son exit the scene., CONT: When Kate and Leah are buying truffles and Leah's water breaks, Kate hands the truffle back to the dealer at one point and then in the next shot, she has it in her hand again., CONT: When Kate comes into the restaurant after her sister?s death and finds Nick there, he is singing. You can see in one shot that he has a basting brush in his left hand and a chicken in his right. In the shot where he sings to Leah's baby you see he brings his arms in and touches her stomach with a kitchen cloth. However, in the next shot he is holding the brush again., CREW: Blue painters tape on the floor in the hallways between the two rooms marking the spot where the actors stand in several scenes. Also, the rug in the hallway is there when there is no blue tape, gone when the tape is there., CONT: After the little girl runs away - and Nick and Kate are driving in Nick's truck - there is a scene where he is driving from the right (English) rather than the left. (This is due to a flipped shot.), CHAR: In the final scene, Kate and Nick are cooking in the kitchen. Zoe is serving the food - and her hair is down. Food preparation guidelines for restaurants indicate that food preparers (including servers) with long hair must either have their hair fixed up above their collar (as Kate does), or pulled back in a ponytail. Zoe's hair is loose.
Kate: [leans her head on the couch, thinking Nick is going to kiss her]::Nick: Your leaning on my scarf.::Kate: [embarassed] Oh my, yah., Therapist: Kids like fishsticks...::Kate: I can't believe I'm actually paying for these suggestions., Kate: [about Nick] You bring in a sous chef from an Italian restaurant and I'm the one in therapy?, Therapist: Kate, I'm sure you will be able to prevent the worst from happening.::Kate: And that would be?::Therapist: That he will tolerate you for any length of time., Kate: I know I'm doing everything wrong, but I promise you that I will always be here for you.::Zoe: [pause] Kate? You're not doing *everything* wrong., Zoe: [while waiting for Nick to arrive] He's late... Men!, Kate: Oh, I see you've brought something to read to Zoe.::Charlotte: It's for my thesis... rapidly mutating deadly viruses., Kate: What are we going to do about work?::Nick: What we always do. You tell me what to do and then I'll go behind your back and do whatever I want., Therapist: Why do you come to see me every week?::Kate: My boss said she'd fire me if I didn't get therapy.::Therapist: Why do you think, she thinks you need therapy? Why?::Kate: You know what, I haven't the faintest idea
Soundtrack: "Truffles and Quail" Composed by Conrad Pope Conducted by Conrad Pope, "Sway" Performed by 'Michael Bublé' (qv)
The film's score composer, 'Philip Glass' (qv), can be seen sitting at an outdoor table at the Bistro near the end of the film., According to USA Weekend, 'Catherine Zeta-Jones' (qv) worked for one evening as a server at Fiamma Osteria in New York in preparation for her role in the movie. When customers remarked on how much their server resembled Catherine Zeta-Jones, she would reply, "I hear that all the time.", The Dolcetto wine mentioned in the restaurant during the early part of the film is said to have come from the Adelaide Hills in South Australia. This is the homeland of the film's director 'Scott Hicks' (qv) who is also a wine-maker when he is not making films. The wine mentioned is in fact the director's own wine label from his winery Yacca Paddock Vineyards in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia., The music that plays when Kate talks to Zoe at her mother's grave is from the soundtrack to _Ladder 49 (2004)_ (qv)., Nick jokingly tells Kate that in Italian, tiramisu means "food of the gods." In actuality, tiramisu literally means "pick me up."

Bob Balaban (actor)
Articles: "Entertainment Weekly" (USA), 15 March 2002, Vol. 1, Iss. 644, pg. 35, by: Nicholas Fonseca, "Almost Famous"
Cousin of director 'Burt Balaban' (qv) and nephew of Barney Balaban., Played the head of NBC in both _"Seinfeld" (1990)_ (qv) and _The Late Shift (1996) (TV)_ (qv)., Son of Elmer Balaban (1909-2001) who was last surviving of seven Balaban brothers who dominated the theater business in Chicago and much of the Midwest. The Balaban boys, sons of immigrant Jewish grocery-store owners in Chicago, built city's first "supercolossal" theaters, the 700-seat Circle and the 2,000-seat Central Park. Bob's Uncle Barney became chairman of Paramount Pictures in Hollywood and wanted to pass the torch to Elmer, but he declined. Elmer has been credited with devising an early version of pay TV, based on a set-top box that would show first-run movies at home by accepting quarters., Published a diary of his experiences working on the film _Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)_ (qv)., His first cousin, Judith Balaban Quine, is author of "The Bridemaids", a book about her friend, 'Grace Kelly (I)' (qv)., Was nominated for Broadway's 1979 Tony Award as Best Actor (Featured Role - Play) for "The Inspector General.", Uncles Barney and A. J. Balaban owned ornate movie theaters with Sam Katz, the Balaban & Katz theater chain. Renamed Publix Theaters in 1925, it was acquired by Paramount Pictures. The theater chain became so important to Paramount's fortunes that the company name was changed to Paramount-Publix in 1930. Paramount-Publix went bankrupt in 1933, and was reorganized as Paramount Pictures, Inc. Sam Katz forced co-founder Adolph Zukor to resign, but after Barney Balaban became Paramount president in 1936, he appointed Zukor chairman of the board. Barney Balaban was president of Paramount through the tumultuous years following the 1949 Supreme Court-mandated divestiture of movie production companies from their theater chains. President of Paramount for 28 years, Barney coined "Balaban's Law," which held that a film had to gross three times its negative cost to break even. After the failure of Samuel Bronston's "Fall of the Roman Empire" (1964), which cost $20 million (approximately $115 million in 2003 dollars), Balaban was eased out of Paramount., Uncle Barney Balaban, president of Paramount Pictures from 1936 to 1964,was one of the movie magnates who attended the Waldorf Conference in 1946, in which the blacklist against communists was implemented. A deeply religious man, when asked by his daughter about his complicity with the blacklist, Balaban told her, "I don't think it's okay. There's something about it that's okay, but there's something about it that's terrible, and I don't quite understand it all yet."
